The tomb of Mother Marie Anne

Since 1955, the tomb of Blessed Marie Anne Blondin has been situated within our motherhouse in Lachine.

Tombeau de Mère Marie-Anne

As plans for the sale of the motherhouse progressed in recent years, the Congregational Leadership Team studied various options for the relocation of the tomb, using several criteria as guidelines, including:

• The tomb should remain in Quebec, Blessed Marie Anne Blondin’s homeland.

• It should be in a diocese whose history resonates with that of Blessed Marie Anne Blondin and where the SSAs have ministered.

• The chosen location should be able to honor the ecclesial requirements for canonization.

After prayerful discernment, the Diocese of Saint Jerome was chosen as the new home for the tomb of Blessed Marie Anne Blondin.  The transfer occurred on July 26, 2021.  From now on her remains will rest in the nave of the Cathedral of Saint Jerome, which currently houses the sanctuary and museum space for Blessed Marie Anne Blondin, created there in 2018 at the invitation of the parishioners.

Bishop Raymond Poisson was delighted to welcome Blessed Marie Anne Blondin to the region that includes her birthplace, Terrebonne.
